How Success Pages can boost the success of your website
If you're looking for extra ways to maximise the opportunity of a potential customer that's already browsing through your website, a well-planned success page is a brilliant, FREE and easy way to keep the ball rolling towards your business.
So what is a Success Page?
This is the page a website visitor is taken to after they fill in a form on your website. This might be:
A general contact form
A quote request
Opting in for a lead magnet
Requesting more information about a specific service
Signing up for your email newsletter.
In any form builder or website builder worth considering, there is an option to direct the visitor to a new page after they click 'submit' or 'join'. (Squarespace has this feature built in and it's ridiculously easy to set up).
A success page can have anything you want on it - the reason it's super useful is that it can only be reached after someone fills in a form on your website.
This is a clear signal that they're interested in what you're offering, and they're ready to hear what you have to say.
Here's an example of the success page I have set up for when someone requests one of my freebies, like my DIY Website Handbook or my 5-Day Website Challenge:
Here, I invite them to:
Add me to their contacts, which increases the likelihood of me emails landing in their inbox and not their junk folder
Read some of my blog posts
Follow me on Instagram or
Join my free Facebook group.
All of these avenues create the opportunity for them to move closer towards being a customer, and may even increase their chances of buying from me.
The kicker: all this is 5 minutes worth of work, a fresh blank page on your website and some text links.
The biggest component of this is understanding why your customer is on this page in the first place, and how to keep that momentum going.
Here's an example of how you could use a success page to really super-charge this potential sale:
1. Imagine a customer sends you a general enquiry through your website, maybe asking for a custom price or asking a question about one of your products/service. Big hint: they're interested in what you're selling! In the case of my business, they might ask what budget-friendly options I have for building a website for their small business.
2. On your success page, you have a link to a free resource that's going to help move them towards knowing or doing something that makes them feel like they've achieved something whilst actually moving them closer to doing business with you. In my example, I direct them to one of my free tools that gets them started with a Squarespace website for free. This opens them up to the idea that building their own website following clear guidelines might actually be very achievable!
3. Now by the time you actually contact them, through that resource they've gotten to know you a bit more, they're familiar with your expertise and you might have actually helped them make progress! In my example again, I might tell the customer that my budget option is my Weekly Website Workshop, where I teach you how to build your own website. Prior to using the resource on my success page, they might never have considered this as an option. But between sending me an enquiry and my response, they've been encouraged to take Squarespace for a test drive. And now, they might be very keen to get started! And all this happened on autopilot: all it took was a handy resource I made in advance and a well thought out success page.*
Here’s what I’m getting at: when you have access to, and control of, your small website, there are a tonne of simple and effective strategies just like this that you can implement to maximise its potential.
If you can't access your website, you find your current one waaaay too confusing, or you simply don't have one, why not take Squarespace for a spin. Check out my FREE 5-Day Website Challenge and see for yourself how easy it can be to get started.
