The Meredith Paige Podcast

The Juggle is Real. Let's Figure It Out.

Running a small business while raising small humans in a small town is tough.

But it’s the kind of tough that allows us to reach bigger financial goals whilst also having the freedom to prioritize things on our terms. So how do we make sure it stays that way? Well, that is exactly what I’m using this podcast to find out.

I’m Meredith Paige. As well as a wife & and a mum, I’m a marketing strategist from regional Australia. I want to find out how the small town entrepreneurs of this country make it work.

#041: What If We've Got Imposter Syndrome All Wrong?

I discovered recently that a lot of people who are in businesses that are older, bigger and more established than mine - even Jordan Peterson! - all still experience Impostor Syndrome. Which made me think: what if we we've got Imposter Syndrome all wrong? What if this little pessimistic voice we all seem to carry around inside of our heads is actually the key to our success, rather than something we're succeeding in spite of?

039: Levelling Up Your Written Marketing Content with Martha Barnard-Rae of Word Candy Comms

When it comes to marketing our regional and rural small business, quite often we focus on the visual aspects of a website and as a result, we don't pay as much attention as we should to the language and wording. This aspect carries so much weight in what it is that we communicate and the success of how it lands with our clients.

I love diving into the language of marketing and how we can use words to articulate what a business does, why they're important and why you should choose them. Another who shares my love of this is Martha of Word Candy Comms. Martha has a fantastic perspective on words and language so I had to talk to her about what she thinks about SEO, language, tone of voice and how we can bring all that together to write more successful website text and social media captions when marketing our regional and rural small businesses.

Let’s jump in!

How you can be consistent and measure results without getting hung up and feeling like you have to live and die over likes on a Facebook post.

029: The Power of Taking Breaks

If I were to mention the idea of taking some time off, there is a very good chance you would laugh, cry or both. Taking time off seems like worlds away from the daily doing that we undertake in small business however a recent camping experience where I was forced to cut everything off made me realise just how valuable these rest periods are.

I got to disconnect from all the noise and reconnect and strengthen that connection with my immediate family and our friends. And not only that, because I had a break, I had time for the air to clear in my mind and all these new ideas and a fresh energy bubbled to the surface. When I got back, I was excited to jump back into work and put everything into action. This is why rest is important; and what made my time off so much more achievable is some of the actions I’m going to share with you today.

There were a few fundamental things that I did that I have been doing for over a decade that put me in the best position possible in order to tackle that challenge when it arose. 025: Teaching Your Kids About Algorithms

Navigating the online world as a grownup is scary on a good day. So how do we teach our kids how to use platforms such as YouTube and Google with caution? Because, let’s be real - we can't stop them from seeing, viewing and engaging with these platforms forever, as much as we might like to.

A recent experience with my seven-year-old after his YouTube habits got a little out of hand saw me draw a line in the sand and have a serious chat with him. My purpose was to make him understand how algorithms work and how more often than not, these platforms aren’t the product - we are!
